Computer Imaging

Do you sometimes wonder why your dentist wants to do a certain procedure and not others? At Baystate Dental we understand that sometimes it is difficult to understand the nature of your dental problems and why we might recommend certain treatments for you and not others. One of our main goals is to provide patient education so you can make informed decisions about the course of your own dental treatment.

Computer imaging is one method we use to help ensure this two-way communication. With a chairside monitor in each room, we can display an image of your tooth or mouth and discuss it with you. By pointing to defects or budding problems, your dentist can show you why certain treatments might be necessary to avoid pain, to save you expense in the future, and to shorten your time in the dental chair.

Computer imaging can be used for general dentistry health maintenance and restorations, cosmetic dentistry smile enhancements, and neuromuscular dentistry treatment of a bad bite.

You and your dentist can look at an image together and discuss different treatment options. The images can be printed for you to take home and discuss treatment options with your loved ones. It can be emailed to you or copied on to a CD. It  can also be emailed to insurance companies to help speed up insurance reimbursement, reducing some of your costs.

Computer Imaging and Cosmetic Dentistry

Computer imaging is especially useful for cosmetic dentistry applications. We can take a close-up picture of your current smile and then us morphing software to show you how certain cosmetic dentistry procedures can enhance the look of your teeth. By looking at your current smile side-by-side with the improvements we recommend, you can see your new smile before we even start any procedures. By looking at computer images, you can see your:

Invisalign software is an example of how this works. Your cosmetic dentist can show you each stage of your tooth-straightening plan – how each pair of aligners will move your teeth – and you can see the final result on our chairside monitor before we even send the data to the Invisalign company for manufacture of your series of aligners.

Computer imaging gives you more control over your dental experience and more knowledge of how and why your dental procedures are done.
